Does anyone remember that commercial where the mom made Rice Krispie Treats, then tossed a little bit of flour on her face and brought the treats to her family while trying to looks as haggard and tired as possible?
The idea was that “your family never know how easy it was, but will think you slaved in the kitchen all day.”
(To which my roommate Sara would roll her eyes and say, “Her family must be pretty stupid if they don’t know how to make Rice Krispie Treats.”)
Whether or not that was a good commercial is perhaps debatable, but there is no doubt that Rice Krispie Treats are, in fact, very easy to make.
And I honestly had no idea that there were so many types of Rice Krispie Treat recipes!

Do Rice Krispie Treats have to be refrigerated?
Nope.
In fact, putting them in the fridge can make them soggy.
How long do Rice Krispie Treats stay fresh?
Well, at my house sweet treats are always gone within about 24 hours.
But I’ve heard that Rice Krispie Treats can stay fresh for about 3 days.
✅ How do I freeze Rice Krispie Treats?
Cut them into squares, then place them in an airtight container in layers, separated by wax paper. They can last in the freezer up to 6 weeks.
When you’re ready to eat them, just let them sit out on the counter for 15 minutes to defrost naturally.
✅ Why are my Rice Krispie Treats hard?
I’m guessing it’s because you melted the marshmallows too quickly on too high of a heat — or, similarly, that you kept them heated a little too long.
Another possibility is that you’re not adding quite enough marshmallows — or that you’ve been using marshmallows that have been in the back of your pantry since the TV show Lost was originally on the air.
Also, be gentle and loving with your Rice Krispie mixture. Don’t stir it as if you’re taking out vengeance on somebody, and don’t pack it down forcefully into your pan.
How do you soften hard Rice Krispie Treats?
Here’s an unusual trick from Creative Homemaking:
Place your Rice Krispie rocks in a Ziploc bag along with a slice of bread and let it sit overnight. The moisture from the bread will transform your rocks into soft, tasty Rice Krispie squares.
Why are my Rice Krispie Treats stale and soggy?
Either you’re using a little too much butter or (God forbid) you’re using margarine.
If it’s the latter, please repent of your sins and remove all of that vile substance from your home immediately.
