  • The Best Easy Greek Tzatziki Recipe

I was recently invited to stay on the brand new Sky Princess ship – Princess Cruises brand new ship that debuted October 20, 2019 in Athens Greece.

I’m proud to have often partnered with Princess Cruises as one of their legacy influencers – and have had some of the most amazing trips of my lifetime on ship with Princess.

I love working with them so much, I’ve booked my own family cruises with Princess. I don’t take your trust as a reader lightly – and reccomend Princess Cruises both as a partner, but also a customer!

I’m also sharing a lot about my trips with Princess Cruises in this post – because I truly love to travel and experience the world through food.

Recipes, like this Greek Tzatziki inspired by my trip to Greece, help make the world feel a little smaller and more welcoming – just like a trip with Princess Cruises.

There is no way to experience the world through others eyes than trying the flavors of different cultures – and Princess Cruises makes it easy to explore, taste, and enjoy ports all over the world with things like their Ocean Medallion program – which is featured on Medallion Class ships and coming to other ships soon – with things like easy check-in, not having to carry a passport or ID to get off or on the ship* (though in some countries you absolutely need to carry your passport due to increased security checks like France and Russia), and the ability to order things from around the ship right on your phone so you can maximize time relaxing when back on board!

What is Tzatziki

Tzatziki is sometimes called a sauce, sometimes a dip, and sometimes a soup – and can be thinner or thicker, depending on how it’s made – but it always is a combination of yogurt, cucumbers, garlic, salt, olive oil, sometimes with vinegar or lemon juice, and herbs such as dill, mint, parsley or thyme.

Tzatziki is wildly popular in Greece – and is one of the most known Greek dishes in America.

It’s one of those recipes everyone has their own little tweaks and twists on, and one that is easily adaptable to the flavors and textures you like!

For this recipe I am making a basic dip-style tzatziki, perfect to serve with vegetables, pita bread, or souvlaki! It’s also great alongside Spicy Whipped Feta dip, just like we had on the Plaka!

Easy Greek Tzatziki Recipe (4)

When we headed into the Plaka in Athens (an old, sprawling mostly pedestrian area under the foot of the Acropolis popular with tourists that is full of shops, restaurants, cafes, and flea markets), tzatziki was one of the first things we sought out… it is light, refreshing, and cooling.

Since Athens is hot even on a cooler day, tzatziki is the perfect starter to help cool you down with creamy yogurt that isn’t too heavy – and lots of fresh cucumber, lemon, and dill!

Tzatziki is so easy to make – and delicious anytime of year – it will quickly become one of your favorite dishes!

I hope this tzatziki recipe will inspire you to try some new Greek foods, or consider exploring Greece as well!

Our Athens Cruise Stop

I was so excited to be able to join Princess Cruises for the Inaugural sailing of the brand new Sky Princess ship… and even more special heading to Greece, where I have always wanted to go, with my husband to celebrate our 10 year anniversary!

My husband lived in Athens Greece during his gap year, and it was so much fun to see the city through his eyes – eating some of his favorite meze (the Mediterranean equivalent to appetizers – think of meze as small plates that can be combined to make a meal, similar to tapas), walking the streets he used to explore, and popping into shops he loved (we even found a small music shop he bought the Greek bouzouki guitar we have displayed in our house).

What To Do On Shore In Athens

We walked to the Acropolis (hot tip: head straight to the Acropolis upon disembarkation – take a cab if you can – to avoid the bulk of the crowds. We got there way before groups showed up, and were leaving as it filled with people on a Sunday morning – and it made a huge difference!) to see the Temple of Athena, the Parthenon, the Erechtheum, and the hill Paul gave the Areopagus Sermon – weaving together ancient Greek history and early Christian history.

It was such a great, easy way to make our way through the Mediterranean – while Luke lived in Greece (this was my first time in Greece), neither of us had ever been to Montenegro or Italy – but we got a lovely taste of them through our voyage!

Sometimes travel can seem overwhelming or unreachable – but Princess’ core mission is to make it easier to connect with family and friends, as well as the gorgeous destinations they travel to.

About Sky Princess

The Sky Princess is beyond gorgeous – and offers so many new amenities to cruisers, like a new restaurant, new deck pools, and a whole new Jazz bar!

The Sky Princess also features the most jaw-droppingly beautiful suite I’ve ever seen – the Sky Suite.

It features the largest balcony at sea – and is perfect for groups who like to entertain on board!

Easy Greek Tzatziki Recipe (8)

The Sky Princess’ Sky Suite was fabulous for hosting parties, or even just to watch Movies Under the Stars from the large wraparound balcony – we held a co*cktail party there one night and sipped on Skyy Vodka Martinis, which was a bit of fun in the Sky Suite of the Sky Princess (how’s that for being meta?).

It is the perfect space for multi-generational cruising – I am already looking at dates I can visit with my family!

About Ocean Medallion

The best part of the Sky Princess is it is the first ship built entirely around Princess Cruises’ Ocean Medallion Program.

The Ocean Medallion is a game changer for the cruising industry – after just one Medallion Class cruise, I was hooked and spoiled for life!

About Ocean Medallion

Ocean Medallion makes cruise life so easy – we’ve been loving ordering room service from our phones (even retail shops on ship deliver!), the speedy embarkation and disembarkation process (it makes going through lines at port so much faster), and all of the fun entertainment enhancements Medallion Class cruising offers.

The offerings really make the experience for cruisers unforgettable – its a few clicks to order fresh pillows or towels to your room, food delivered around the ship, have fun in the casino from anywhere you have your phone – and so much more.

Easy Greek Tzatziki Recipe (11)

Ocean Medallion Apps

To get the most out of the Ocean Medallion experience on ship from your phone, you need to download Ocean Medallion Apps – but Princess made this easier than ever by consolidating many of the best features of all the apps into the new Medallion Class App.

The apps on Princess are going to be improving, consolidating, and changing in the future – so by the time you read this, some of my information might be out of date as they go through updates.

To make sure you have the best experience, regardless of how updated my experience on ship was, I reccomend downloading the Medallion Class app first, where many of the below apps have been merged into – and then interacting with the app a bit to see if there are others you would like to have on your phone.

Easy Greek Tzatziki Recipe (12)

Not every app will appeal to every cruiser, so you can pick what you want as well as see what else is available and what might be new that way!

To make it easy, I’m linking each of the apps below so you can check out some of the amazing new features Princess Cruises offers with Medallion Class cruising!

Easy Greek Tzatziki Recipe (13)

Again – please download the Medallion Class app first to see if you’re interested in anything else.

Very likely, you’ll only use the Medallion Class app – but I am going to list the others so you can get a sense of what each one does for your experience on board.
