* Michael Hamlin, a 1988 graduate of Surry County High School, recently received a Black Student Incentive Grant from Lynchburg College.
Hamlin, a junior marketing major, is the son of Llyod and Ceroncia Hamlin of Dendron.
The grant of $3,000 per academic year is awarded to black students who have demonstrated leadership in their school, church and community.
* The Minority Affairs Club at the Portsmouth Campus of Tidewater Community College has selected Dr. Amarjit Singh as the campus’ Outstanding Minority Faculty Member for the 1989-90 academic year.
Dr. Singh, a professor of health and physical education, was selected on the basis of his support of Minority Affairs concerns, community involvement and sensitivity to the needs of minority students.

* Old Dominion University has received national recognition for its teleconference “Doing Business With The U.S.S.R.: Preparation For The Joint Venture.”
The teleconference recently was named best independent production by a non-profit organization by Business TV and the Video Guide Magazine.
