WF my 29 Senator Carter Glass Democrats, Republicans Praise Dean of Senate WASHINGTON, May 28 (UP)-The House and Senate, after sessions today, recessed in respect to Senator Carter Glass, of Virginia, father of the Federal ReSystem and dean of the Senate, who died early this morning at the age of 88. Funeral services for Glass, whose death from congestive heart failure came after a long illness, will be held at his Lynchburg, home, Montview, Thursday at 3 p. m. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery there. He leaves a wife, the former Mary Scott Meade.

Both Republican and Democratic Senators eulogized the distinguished Virginian, one of the Senate's most outstanding and colorful members until his illness in recent years kept him away from the Capitol. Glass, called the "Unreconstructed Rebel" by the late President Roosevelt, had served in Congress since 1902 except for several years as Secretary of the Treasury under President Woodrow Wilson. The House, which had scheduled its annual memorial services for other members of Congress who had died during the past year, held those ceremonies and then adopted a resolution to adjourn out of respect to Glass. Glass, who had been unable to attend Senate session since June, 1942, was serving term which expires in 1949. had served as fie chairman of the powerful Senate years, and McKellar, who has filled Appropriations Committee for many the post in his absence, is expected to become permanent chairman.
